Kennedy’s writing accolades began early when he won the National Young Playwrights Search at age 17 for Don't Ask Me. I Just Live Here. Winner of the First National Sketch Writing Competition for Le Grand Y-Grec, Kennedy spent six years touring Canada and the United States with The Juanabees Comic Theatre Company—named by the Edmonton Journal as “Canada's best comedy troupe without a TV show.” Kennedy's writing credits include the animated films A David Lynch Family Christmas and The Gnome Who Knew Too Much—which he also co-directed (Special Achievement Award—2003 Reelfast Film Festival ), the live action short Rewind, as well as three shorts Godot: Rien a Faire, TVreality and Straight Flush, which he also directed for his own ironically named Hobbyists or Dabblers Studio. Kennedy is a Jessie Richardson Award nominated actor for the role of ‘Freddie, the Chicken Boy’ in the western Canadian Premiere of George F. Walker’s Science and Madness with appearances on The L-Word and a lead role in the feature Sons of Cohen , which he also wrote.
He was the first recipient of the Provost Writer's Award for his play Sarcophagus about the Chernobyl disaster. In 2005, Kennedy adapted the
cult-novel Cosmic Banditos for stage—a feat which earned him further work
on the new non-fiction novel by Cosmic Banditos's author Allan Weisbecker,
